Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 2025
The short version: Your prayers stay on your device. We don't see them, store them, or share them. Prayer is sacred, and your privacy is too.
Our Philosophy
PrayWell was built with privacy as a core value, not an afterthought. We believe that the space between you and God should remain private. We designed our app so that we simply cannot access the content of your prayers.
What We Don't Collect
Let's start with what we'll never see:
- Your prayer content — What you write and the prayers generated for you are never sent to our servers in a way that identifies you.
- Your feelings or tags — The emotions you select stay on your device.
- Your saved prayers — These are stored locally on your device only.
- Your name or email — We don't require an account to use PrayWell.
What We Do Collect
To provide and improve PrayWell, we collect minimal, anonymous data:
Device Identifier
A random, anonymous identifier is generated when you first use the app. This is used to manage your free prayer and subscription status. It cannot be used to identify you personally.
Subscription Information
If you subscribe, Apple handles the payment. We receive a confirmation that your subscription is active, but no payment details, Apple ID, or personal information.
Anonymous Analytics
We track simple, anonymous events to understand how PrayWell is used:
- App opened
- Prayer generated (count only, not content)
- Subscription started
These events contain no personal information and cannot be traced back to you.
How Prayer Generation Works
When you create a prayer, your input is sent to our server to generate a response using AI. This happens over an encrypted connection. We do not log or store the content of these requests. Once your prayer is generated and returned to your device, we have no record of it.
Third-Party Services
PrayWell uses the following third-party services:
- Anthropic (Claude) — Powers prayer generation. Subject to their privacy policy.
- Apple App Store — Handles subscriptions and payments.
- Vercel — Hosts our API infrastructure.
- Upstash — Stores anonymous usage counts (not prayer content).
Data Storage
- On your device: Saved prayers, preferences, and settings are stored locally using Apple's secure storage.
- On our servers: Only anonymous usage counts and subscription status. No prayer content.
Crisis Support
If PrayWell detects language that suggests you may be in crisis, we'll pause and show you resources like the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. We do not log or report this to anyone—it's simply a safeguard built into the app to help connect you with support if you need it.
Children's Privacy
PrayWell is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
Your Rights
Since we don't collect personal information, there's not much to delete. However, you can:
- Delete the app to remove all local data
- Cancel your subscription through Apple
- Contact us with any privacy concerns
Changes to This Policy
If we make significant changes to this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date and may notify you through the app. Your continued use of PrayWell after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
